2003 AVON WALK FOR BREAST CANCER

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer--L.A.--Sept 6th-7th

Cousin Phyllis--every step of this walk was to honor your courage.

There certainly is something special about walking the "home walk" which is always how I think of the LA walk even though we live 60 miles east of LA. My daughter, Ronda, walked the walk with me and several of her friends also participated.

I hate to discuss the weather, because there is nothing we can do about it! However, doing this walk in at least 96-degree weather certainly pushes my limits much further! So not only do I need to concentrate on where my feet are walking, so I don't trip, I definitely need to be concerned with hydrating enough with water and Gatorade.

So I am constantly trying to remember to drink and reminding everyone around me to drink as well. It is easy to start talking and forgetting about hydrating! So, I must have done a good job because I stopped at every porta-potty area, which is about every 2 miles. Though I make it sound funny, it really was a serious concern for the medical staff. Many people stopped walking before they planned because they were dehydrated.

There were several women from my area walking and it was fun to spend time with them and share this incredible experience.

My kids, Debra, David, and Chris, helped Bob put up his famous pink signs of support,. It was a family project. It was a treat sharing closing ceremonies with them because it was the "home walk".

I continue to be overwhelmed by the people that I meet--or have met in the past;. It continues to be such a special part of this experience.

I spoke at closing ceremonies and it was really exciting to watch from the stage as everyone came in. It is such an honor to do that and feels way out of "the box" for me. It gave me an opportunity to thank my family for supporting me, and for Bob's unbelievable support through all of this.

Maybe I have said this before, but thank you everyone for coming up to me and sharing your stories and introducing yourselves, even if it is reminding me of where and when we met before!

REMINDER; HAVE YOU DONE YOUR REGULAR SELF EXAM OR HAD YOUR MAMMOGRAM, OR REMINDED SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE ABOUT THAT!

Thanks for coming to my website.
